Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
