Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, bringing wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Residents witnessed giant hailstones measuring up to 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to address the extensive power failures.
Southern State's Weather Woes
Simultaneously, around one thousand households in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.
State Emergency Services received 598 emergency reports across the area, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

Weather Forecast
Moist weather were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both states.

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.
